[edit] Heading Three

B O L D T E X T

Italic Text

  • This is bullet point 1
  • This is bullet point 2

One must add text in between the types of bullet points so they’re not nested. It is still finicky tho.

  1. This is a numbered bullet. It should say 1. If it doesn’t, we scream.
  2. And this is 2!

Please do not use the ampersand

He’s going to want us to use APA

You can use the discussion space to better comment on other people’s articles or sections. It can still be read by readers, so be nice, but it doesn’t need to be as nicely structured as the actual article

This is a subpage

Two square brackets [[ ]] point to a sub page in the wiki, one set [ ] points to an external link.

The author of a page has access to the “history” tab up above, and they can check who makes changes and such. If the changes are undesirable, the author can revert the article back to a previous version. Simply edit the old version, and save it, thus overwriting the most up to date version with the desirable version.

The “Editing Help with Kumu” PDF is in the resources in Sakai and provides a lot of wiki editing help. Consider printing it off and putting it in your bag to always have it on-hand.

[edit] Notes for the Assignments

  • It’s NOT a competition. Work with your team members not against them!
  • STICK TO THE APRIL 1ST DEADLINE (initial versions of wiki article reviews), it helps structure class in April 5th and allow your members to help edit your articles!!
    • Dale is also available as tech help if anything goes wrong with the wiki articles
  • April 8th is the submission for the snapshot of the initial version, plus the final version
  • They aren’t going to punish you if your initial is close to your best work and your final version isn’t much different.
    • Additionally, the initial could be crap and the final could show great improvement. But, watch out, you will receive a bad grade for the initials and they are worth 15%.
  • In the sample review, make sure you fully understand the article you are reading. If an author poses a counter argument to what they are arguing, they’re not contradicting themselves, they’re bringing up the counter-argument to argue against it
    • What is the overall purpose of the review/ article? Why did they decide they needed to write about a certain topic?
  • Focus on THE MOST IMPORTANT POINTS OF THE ARTICLES. It doesn’t need to have a certain number of strengths or weaknesses, just focus on the most significant of them. This is for the LOGIC section of the grading.
  • Do a word-processed doc of the wiki stuff first so you have an additional copy of it. It’s helpful for recovery, and also the wiki doesn’t have spellcheck/ grammar check so it’s much better to do this in a word processor first.

[edit] Article Reviews Assignment Notes

  • Do not do 6 different articles, the initial and final versions are for the same 3 articles
  • Hitting just below 600 words (500-550) is fine as long as what you have said is complete. Don’t add random garbage just to reach the minimum 600
  • Be sure to save a copy of the original AND the final on the 8th and be sure to clearly indicate which is which

[edit] Sample Article Review Assignment Notes

  • Appendix 1 is the article we will be reviewing.
  • Take a long look at Appendix 2, Dale provides some helpful hints and tips of things to look for when editing someone else’s review
  • No ‘s in the title, it makes the page secret
  • Be sure to verify that the reviewer didn’t misrepresent the article
  • When submitting the sample article, you only have to submit your final edited version, you don’t have to show what you have changed.
  • Take the text out, plonk it into word to find grammatical errors, and go from there to get a great start

[edit] Additional Notes

  • Look at the guidelines for article reviews Dale posted on Sakai
    • Are there hidden assumptions?
    • Can you follow the argument? Is the author being confusing as opposed to you being dumb?
    • Re-read your articles after
  • Look over the wiki editing notes document on Sakai
  • IF YOU CREATE A PAGE USING THE SQUARE BRACKETS [ ] AND THEN CHANGE THE TITLE, THE ORIGINAL PAGE STILL EXISTS (like Vanellope’s player data in Wreck-it Ralph) DO THE SUBPAGE STUFF AT THE END.
