[edit] Disinformation & Fake News Effects on Covid-19 Information

Context Statement

Covid-19 is a topic that is often discussed on social media after the start of the pandemic in 2020. The problem came with all the disinformation and fake news that was being spread with the discussion of Covid-19 on social media. Users would share their thoughts on multiple themes surrounding the pandemic such as vaccines, remedies, death count, conspiracies, how it started, restrictions…etc. The information that was spread on social media was not always coming from a credible source to begin with, thus the spread of fake news on social media platforms regarding Covid-19. This is a huge issue since fake news about health factors led to moral panic, caused fear and people did not know what information to trust. This section will look at topics about how and why fake Covid-19 news was spread, who is/feels susceptible to Covid-19 fake news, and platform specific causes of Covid-19 disinformation.
