E-LEARNING REPORT FOR UNIVERSITY OF WINDSOR AUGUST 2009

Triumphs

•Successful campus-wide implementation of Sakai replacing our own outdated LMS-based on Lotus Notes; stability in the new environment; and, successful move from 3rd party support to the community version of Sakai

•Introduction of e-grade application integrated with Sakai

•Transfer of a technology trainer position from ITS to Centre for Teaching and Learning – to better support the integration of pedagogy into the training for LMS and other technology in support of teaching, e.g. clickers, SmartBoards

•Development of a new database for the scheduling and support of videoconferencing across campus

•Installation of two new media servers to support both PC and MAC videos in support of live streaming of convocation and the increased demand for media to be included in course materials

•Increased use of clickers, podcasting

•Workshops for faculty increasingly include technology as part of good teaching practices

Challenges

•As more technology is installed in classrooms, there is a greater commitment on financial resources to maintain the equipment while faced with reduced budgets

•Campus-wide IT Review looking at the future of delivery of technical services
