Carleton University Summer Institute 2008 - Waterloo


  1. Successfully migrated from WebCT 4 to WebCT 6 (but not without some headaches!)
    1. 2200 active course sections
    2. 700 instructors
    3. one on one training sessions to all instructors
    4. small group training, web, video and print documentation
  2. Learning Management Task Force
    • Group made up of stakeholders from across the university to examine other LMS platforms (both open source as well as commercial), pilot and evaluate one other system in comparison to current offering.
  3. Lecture Mashup (http://videonotes.carleton.ca/)
    • Partnered with a video mashup technology provider (GoTuit) to develop and release the world’s first tool to allow students to keyword, edit and mashup video based lectures. Piloted with one course in the Winter term (PSYC 1002). The pilot continues in the Fall term, with a planned roll out to all CUTV courses in Jan 2009.
  4. Standardized on TurningPoint Technologies clicker system
  5. Initiated monthly Teaching and Learning with Technology Roundtable sessions
    1. Led by instructors for instructors
    2. Surprisingly well attended;
  6. Developed on online Syllabus generator
    1. Currently in beta testing with a select group of faculty members
  7. TooFast partnership (Mont Royal College, eCampusAlberta) and development
  8. Provide users with a simple online survey tool for teachers to assess their students' impressions of their courses and their teaching.
  9. Installed 24 TB SAN to manage video assets, will be the future backbone of classroom capture system.
  10. Organizational change: Merger of Carleton University Television with the Instructional Innovation group
  11. Launch of small Teaching Innovation Fund.
