Aldo Caputo, Director, Centre for Extended Learning

University of Waterloo

Chair

I have been a part of OUCEL since it began in 2007. It has been a tremendously valuable and fulfilling experience, both personally and professionally, and I feel a strong commitment to the organization. As part of the Stewardship Committee, I want to help ensure that it continues to be a nexus of information sharing, collegial collaboration, and mutual growth for all participants, as we collectively provide leadership and wisdom around e-learning in the province.

Nick Baker, Director, Office of Open Learning

University of Windsor

Past Chair

I believe wholeheartedly in the value of this community, and am very glad to be able to contribute to its development and resilience in the coming years. OUCeL is a community that opened its arms and welcomed me when I moved to Canada almost a decade ago, and I feel at home when I am with my colleagues from this group. I have contributed to the planning of our annual meetings for several years, and have hosted OUCeL at Windsor, so I'm comfortable supporting the community in this way. I am very active in online, open and technology-enhanced education in the province as a member of the eCampus Ontario Board of Directors and through involvement in many other aspects of eCampus' activities, as well as international organisations in the field. Above all, I want to see our community continue to thrive, to maintain its unique connections to the people who share our space in post secondary education, and to collectively share our wisdom so that we can advocate effectively for the people we serve in our institutions. I am excited to see how our community continues to evolve, and to play an active role in that development as chair of the OUCeL Stewardship Committee.

Helen Brennagh, Assistant Manager, Learning Technology Services

York University

I'm really excited about joining the stewardship committee to contribute to the fantastic work that OUCEL is doing. Since I became part of the OUCEL community, I've felt a warm welcome from colleagues who are incredibly supportive and keen on creating a positive, collaborative space. It's been a great group for sharing insights, offering guidance, gaining inspiration, and cheering on each other's accomplishments. The wealth of information within the group is a valuable resource for both personal and collective growth, and it's also an excellent opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals dedicated to making a positive impact on teaching and learning. I have over 10 years of experience managing and supporting the use of Learning Technologies within Higher Education, a background in Computer Science, and I'm currently pursuing my Master of Educational Technology. I'm excited to grow and learn alongside everyone.

Joanne Kehoe, Lead, Digital Pedagogies

McMaster University

My interest in serving on OUCEL’s Stewardship Committee is primarily based on giving back to a group that has provided so much to me professionally. My experiences in multiple teaching and learning-centered roles at McMaster University and in working and collaborating with eCampusOntario, has provided me with both institutional and system-wide perspectives on how to foster the creation and support of enriching tech-enhanced teaching and learning experiences. My background is rooted in many areas‚ including learning design, technology platform evaluation, acquisition and thoughtful use, faculty development programming, open education and open pedagogies, inclusive teaching practices and cultivating digital literacies for post-secondary communities. I have experienced the countless benefits collaborating across institutions can provide, and work on OUCEL’s Stewardship Committee will feed into my belief that this collaboration across our institutions is key to shaping our collective future. OUCEL represents to me a group that strives toward a shared purpose of cultivating excellence in tech-enhanced teaching and learning, while looking beyond our own institutional and structural constraints.

Jeanette Caron, Manager, Digital Development

University of Ottawa

"I have participated in OUCeL for several years since joining the TLSS at the University of Ottawa. I appreciate the open and supportive nature. My interest in joining the Stewardship Committee is to collaborate more within this community. With my background in instructional design and online learning, I am excited about the advancements in technology and pedagogy, and of course the challenges offered by AI. I believe the OUCeL group is best positioned to explore this new landscape, and share best practices in digital learning (online, hybrid, bimodal etc)."

Jeanette holds a Master of Arts in Educational Technology (Concordia) and PMP. Her past experience includes instructional design in aerospace, developing material for pilot and aircraft maintenance training and later she managed the development of an e-service customer portal for commercial clients. Jeanette currently manages the Digital Development team at the Teaching and Learning Support Services, University of Ottawa.

Mark Lubrick, Learning Specialist, Office of Open Learning

University of Windsor

OUCEL was the very first group I got to interact with when I started my career in educational development in 2015 and I was made to feel welcome and valued even with my lack of experience. As part of the stewardship committee I want to give back to this valuable group and support the positive influence it has within our community. Within my office I support a wide range of technologies (virtual learning environments, video recording/editing, authoring tools, captioning, digital math, assistive technologies, etc.). I also sit on various committees and working groups related to professional development, accessibility, technology, and eLearning strategies. Finally, I have the pleasure of continuing to teach an asynchronous online Astronomy course.

Nada Savicevic, Educational Developer

Toronto Metropolitan University

I discovered and was welcomed to the OUCeL community in the summer of 2012, just a few months after I joined Toronto Metropolitan University. Over three days of the Summer Institute at Ontario Tech University, I discovered a family of enthusiasts deeply committed to the wellbeing of students, and passionate connoisseurs of anything ed tech related. Since then I have been an active member, taking part in hosting Winter meetings at TMU. Throughout the years, this cross institutional engagement where ideas are freely exchanged, greatly enriched my professional journey, provided me with numerous opportunities to stay current on educational technologies, and allowed me to better guide my own institution’s initiatives in advancing opportunities for digital learning. By joining the stewardship committee I am looking forward to contributing further, so that our vibrant community continues to thrive.

My experience spreads across various disciplines through a variety of design and development roles on educational projects, both in corporate and university settings, with focus centred on the intersection of design, education and technology. My expertise is technology enhanced learning, inclusive digital pedagogies, and open educational practices. I am a design educator myself, teaching two design courses at TMU, Graphic Design and Design for Mobile Devices.
