[edit] Versions
Two recorded versions of the song exist. One is found on the album Learn & Burn, while the other is on the EP Five Easy Pieces. Though the differences between these two versions are not substantial, Canadian modern rock and active rock stations generally play the Five Easy Pieces version.
[edit] Awards and nominations
On April 1, "I Don't Know" won the Juno Award for Single of the Year.[2] It beat out "Fragile Bird" by City and Colour, "Invincible" by Hedley, "When We Stand Together" by Nickelback and "Let's Go Higher" by Johnny Reid. Several media sources, including The Globe & Mail and The Winnipeg Free Press considered their win to be an upset.[3][4]
[edit] Lyrics
The song has been described as being a "loping, neo-hippie anthem", while band member Ewan Currie believes the song is about experiencing and feeling "uncertainty" in different aspects of life.[5]
[edit] Live performances
"I Don't Know" was performed during the band's national television debut on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on August 3rd, 2011.[6] With the song's increase in popularity due to Rolling Stone's "You Choose the Cover" contest, "I Don't Know" has become a fan favourite, as well as a staple of the band's live performances, making its way onto most set lists.[7] The live version of this song is typically extended at the end, as the band jams as a group before ending the song, most notably during performances at Bonnaroo Music Festival and Osheaga Festival in 2011.
