- Over last 40 years, rate of heart disease has declined - 25% last 10 years - 50% last 20 years - 70& between 1956 and 2002 - 29% of all deaths in Canada in 2008 (69,648) - those who participated in formal exercise programs, death was reduced by 20-25% - someone who exercises often and vigorously has lowest risk for heart disease - people who maintain healthy lifestyle have 45% lower risk of developing heart disease
