[edit] Relevance of Psychology undergraduate degree

There are some skills that can be taken out of psychology courses and applied to this role of RLC. In Health Psychology courses, theories learned, and as a student I was asked to apply them by critically thinking. Critical thinking is taught to students in psychology majors across the country, this is a skill that all students can acquire, that can be applied to this role. The role of the RLC has to be able to look at a situation, think about it, observe and critically think about how to solve a conflict. Using critical thinking, by which one has to analyses the situation, and apply past knowledge and determine the outcome is a skill that the RLC could use. Critical thinking is a huge skill learned within psychology something that is taught to psychology students throughout the four years. Compiling data is a skill psychology students learn within their undergraduate degree. Residence Life Coordinators are constantly compiling data to examine student’s satisfaction, and sending out surveys to look at potential areas of growth within the residence community (Campus Living Centre). Finally a third skill that is learned through an undergraduate psychology degree is the ability to analyze data. Psychology students who collect data for their studies must then compile that information, and make sense of it. This skill is a that RLC also require because after collecting data, the RLC must make sense of it order to be able to take the feedback given and improve the current residence situation.
