Permissions and roles

To complete the procedures in this article, you must be assigned a role having the necessary permissions. This often excludes Students and TAs by default. To determine your role, follow the directions in Participant roles.

For a basic understanding of roles and permissions, see Permissions and roles.

You can use Post’Em to create multiple gradebooks, upload a spreadsheet of grades, or simply post comments.

Please note that the Gradebook tool is a more robust overall choice for sharing grading information with students due to its increased features and maturity. Post'Em, however, continues to be a handy tool for privately sharing structured data (such as assignment, test, or course grades), and may be used in cases that are unsupported by Gradebook.

To make Post’Em visible:

  1. click on Site Setup on the left, then Edit Tools on the top.
  2. Check the box next to Post’Em, then click Continue at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Click Finish on the next screen.

Post’Em link should appear on the left navigation.

[edit] Source CSV files

CSV files that are to be imported into Post'Em need to have the following items:

  • The first column of your .csv file contains individuals’ usernames/CAMPUS IDs
  • The first row of your .csv file contains headings; every column must have a heading
  • Your data can go in subsequent items to right of the student's usernames/CAMPUS IDs

A good source for a list in CSV format with student names and usernames/CAMPUS IDs is the file that instructors can export from the Gradebook tool's Import Grades option - the CSV template.

[edit] Adding content to Post'Em

Fist you must create your .csv file (comma-delimited file) You can use MS Excel to create this file and save it as a .csv file Note: before you export from Excel to a .csv file, be sure that:

  • Your file has been saved in .csv format
  • The first column of your .csv file contains individuals’ usernames/Campus IDs
  • The first row of your .csv file contains headings; every column must have a heading
