Technical & Computer Skills Considerations

I have a desktop or laptop computer I can access on a regular basis for at least 10 hours a week.
I have headphones or speakers and a microphone to use if a class has a videoconference.
My browser will play several common multimedia (video and audio) formats.
I can create folders and organize files on computer.
I can copy and paste text from a word processor into an email or discussion board post.

Internet Access & Skills

I am connected to the internet with a fairly fast, reliable connection such as DSL or cable modem.
I have taken an online course before.
I am comfortable communicating clearly in writing online.
I am willing to email or have online discussions with people I might never see.
I know how to attach a file to an e-mail.
I am comfortable with things like setting bookmarks, and downloading files, and on-line searches for journal articles through the library.

Learning Preferences & Strategies

I like the flexibility of an online course.
I understand that an online course requires just as much work as an on-campus course.
I like to read and have good reading comprehension.
I always read the course syllabus so I know what is expected of me.
I keep a record of what my assignments are and when they are due.
I like to learn in a group but can learn on my own, too.
I have a good study environment to work (low external distractions, comfortable seating, proper lighting).
