Learning Management System Comité de solution logicielle de gestion de la formation Background Web CT was introduced to Laurentian University back in early 2000. As of today, we have 1900 courses on the system. Our contract is up for renewal in April 2009 but as of October 2009, Web CT v.4.1 will be at its end of life. Laurentian University will receive support from the company but upgrades will not be provided for an annual maintenance fee.

Terms of Reference 1. Report to the Vice-President Academic and the Academic Management Team 2. Conduct an environmental scan for Learning Management Systems including commercial and

       open source options

3. The purpose of the advisory committee is to examine options for moving to a new

       platform 

4. The committee will seek input of stakeholders including faculty, students, technical

       support staff and others

5. The committee will collect, evaluate and disseminate data and design a transition

       strategy

6. Review the existing WebCT platform and consider the following criteria in relation to

       the new platform
          a) required technical and academic supports, and Laurentian’s ability to
             provide these supports, for a platform capable of serving Laurentian’s bilingual 
             mandate
          b) provide solutions for special needs requirements
          c) requirements related to migration, rebuilding and /or transferring existing 
             material 
          d) ease of use for faculty and students on and off campus
          e) potential for future growth including improvements  and enhancements
             hardware requirements 
          f) cost

7. The committee will meet every two weeks commencing December 5th, 2008 8. The committee will provide a report by May 2009.


The committee must have representatives from the following areas: • E-Learning • All faculties • Centre for Distance Education • Computer Services • Library • Student • Resource experts
