2:30 pm: Cloud and 2.0 - Risk and Benefit
A panel presentation exploring perspectives along the continuum between using well established institutional LMS tools and leveraging 2.0 and cloud technologies for online learning in higher education. How do we encourage innovation while ensuring data security? Can we require our students to post information and resources to third party environments? What are the FIPPA implications of using non-institutional environments? A candid discussion about the big elephant in the room and implications for academic technology support.

1:00 pm: Open Education: Possibilities & Implications – Web Conference Presentation
Nearly all students use social networking tools and mobile devices as a way to engage and communicate with their friends. To further facilitate student collaboration, Purdue has several new initiatives, including Mixable, an application that builds connections by blending a student's course enrollment information with his or her network of friends that already exists within Facebook. Mixable enables students to collaboratively build and share their personal learning environments by using open tools (Facebook, Twitter, and Dropbox) and the most common mobile devices, while ultimately maintaining privacy. Another new Purdue application is Hotseat, a student polling system that is accessed by phones or other mobile devices. Based on his first hand experience in deploying new models for students engagement, Kyle will provide insights into the changing priorities and emerging opportunities for technology-enabled collaboration, beyond the LMS.

3:00 pm: Horizon Report – Round Table
The 2011 Horizon Report identifies and describes emerging technologies likely to have a large impact over the coming five years in higher education. This internationally recognized report the result of collaboration of the leading thinkers at Educause and the New Media Consortium. A group interactive discussion [using poll everywhere?] will allow individuals to weigh in on whether or not they agree with the forecast, and whether or not the emerging technologies are valuable and important to technology-based support of teaching, learning and creative enquiry.
