Triumphs
- celebrated 40 years and new name with open house, president and other leaders, past faculty and staff
- Centre for Extended Learning; Distance Education is now "Waterloo Online;" Continuing Education is now "Professional Development"
- expansion of online masters programs (Masters in Math for Teachers, Masters in Environment and Business)
- new hires with funding model for masters (6 new developers, 2 QA, 2 IDs [but all contracts]
- new marcomm person & marketing material
- reorganization of unit under new manager
- reduction of wait times for new projects (from almost 2 years to 1)
- significant reduction in waste (both environmental and $) by reducing physical materials mailed to students
- participation in COU's brief to TCU
- selected to help revamp of Waterloo Professional Development for Engineers program (PDENG)
- integrating support emails into ticketing system
Challenges
- undergoing review of internal development practices and strategic direction ("Directions") - coming up with a sustainable model (balancing greater instructor involvement with quality/support, innovation and efficiency) - "just-in-time" support for surprise projects - selection of new LMS - redesign of website; with new instructor resources (agreement, finding time)
