Ontario College of Art

University Status

The Ontario College of Art & Design is now OCAD University. Although OCADU has been degree granting since 2004 offering BFA and BDes 4-year degrees, OCADU now has full University status.

New Research Activities

OCAD now is home to the Inclusive Design Institute lead by Jutta Treviranus. The research group supports many projects, two of which are UI development for Sakai and also development of a LMS called ATutor.

LMS: My Courses

• Further development of in-house LMS
• Fully Integrated Gradebook
• Expansion of second largest proprietary image database in Canada. Added Flash video.
• Adding Student Advising Module (2010) which will allow academic advisors to capture information, refer students and share this back with students.

• Continuing with iTunesU
• Integration of Flash Media Server for Public and Private Content

Web and Video Conferencing / Collaboration

• Implemented Adobe Acrobat Connect Professional
• Investigating Tandberg MOVI (like an HD version of Skype with screen sharing)

Web 2.0

• Continuing project for Blogging with implementation of Wordpress MU for curriculum. Upgrading to MU 3.0 this year.
• Continuing project for using MediaWiki for curriculum
• Continued use of institutional Second Life island for student curriculum and art projects
