|OCAD||Andrew McAllister||in house developed||3||LAMP (new) + IIS/Coldfusion (legacy)||MySQL Cluster MS SQL|| Never||More than 1000||Very satisfied||Unsure||We like making our own LMS. It's nice.|| The user interface for a lot of other LMS systems are awful which frequently brings us back to our own system.
|-

|University of Toronto||Linda Murphy-Boyer||BlackBoard||7.2||||||Sep-09||approx 5000||Satisfied||Unlikely||||After much debate and kerfuffle we have now achieved acceptance from most of our instructors. In addition we have spent much time and many resources developing training materials and custom building block modules for grouping blogging and grafting courses. That said in my opinion it would be very unlikely that we would choose another system when our licence comes due next year.
|-

|University of Waterloo||Jane Holbrook||Angel||7.2||Windows||Oracle||2010||2400||Satisfied||Unsure||||We are currently reviewing our complete Online Learning Environment. This is in preparation for making our decision regarding our LMS renewal in 2010 and also to review other learning technologies that are used separately from the current LMS.

|Carleton University||Steve Gormley||WebCT 8||8.0.1||Solaris||Oracle||01-May-09||2000||Satisfied||Likely ||Open source: Moodle, Sakai, Desire2Learn, WebCT NG(?)||

|Lakehead University||Leslie Malcolm||WebCT 4||CE 4.1||Solaris||SQL||31-Aug-09||500||Satisfied||Unsure||||Although we don't have concrete plans in place to move to a different lms when our current lms licence expires we will be exploring other platforms throughout the upcoming year. Systems we will be investigating are: Angel, ThinkingCap, Blackboard NG and open source platforms.
|-

|Brock University||Matt Clare||Sakai||Sakai 2.6||Linux Frontends, Database - Sakai: Linux MySQL||MySQL||Never||1700||Sakai: Satisfied||Likely||||Results from our Pilot of Sakai and comparison of Sakai, Moodle and WebCT: http://www.brocku.ca/ctlet/sakai/pilot

|University of Waterloo||Andrea Chappell||Angel||7.2||Windows||SQL||May-10||2400||Satisfied||Unsure||We are currently in the midst of a review of the online learning environment needs of the University of Waterloo. This review has been initiated primarily as a matter of good practice in anticipation of the expiration of our Angel license in May 2010 as opposed to being prompted by a dissatisfaction with our current product.
|While we are generally satisfied with our current product, there are areas of concern; we also need to gauge the broader user community's opinion, and review other options.
|-

|Wilfrid Laurier University||Sandy Hughes||WebCT 6||6.1.2 (moving to 6.2.3)||Windows||Oracle||31-Aug-08||1500||Dissatisfied||Unlikely||We are just renewing our license for two years until August 31|| 2010. In Fall 08 we will begin a full LMS review therefore the license will allow one year for the review and one year for migration should we move to a new product. If we need additional time for a migration we will contract with WebCT on an annual basis.
Many bugs and enhancement requests are being targeted for NG, unfortunately NG is missing a good deal of the functionality that we use in Vista. Said functionality is apparently coming in a later release of NG - but until that point we are left with bugs and enhancement requests that are targeted for a release that we cannot use.
</div>
==The Basics==
# Click "edit" at the top of the page.
# Write as you normally would write.
# You can link to anywhere on the web by adding the address with the http:// at the start/
# You can link/create another wiki article by inserting the title between two <nowiki>[[</nowiki> and <nowiki>]]</nowiki> ie. <nowiki>[[no article]]</nowiki>
# You can create sections by placing <nowiki>==</nowiki> on either side of the title. ie. <nowiki>==New Section==</nowiki>. Sub sections would be surrounded by <nowiki>===</nowiki>, then <nowiki>====</nowiki> and so on.
You may also want to look at the [[Creating an article]] refrence.
<br clear="all" />

== Editing rules, editing conventions, and formatting ==

The number one rule of wiki editing, is to ''be bold''. Dive in and make changes. Other people can correct mistakes later, so have confidence, and give it a try! There can be all kinds of editing conventions, rules, and philosophy governing the editing of wiki pages, but the "be bold" rule overrides these!

In general try to write clearly and concisely and make sure you are always aiming to do something which improves the wiki contents. An edit might be to contribute whole paragraphs or pages full of information, or it could be as simple as fixing a typo/spelling mistakes.

When you need to use some type of formatting e.g. new headings or '''bold''' text, you do this using wiki syntax, see [[Help:Formatting]] for some of the common types of formatting used.

== Edit Summary ==

Before you save a change, you can enter a short note in the '''Summary''' box describing your changes. Don't worry too much about this, or spend too much time thinking about it, but try to give a little description of what you just changed e.g. "''fixed typo''" or "''added more information about sunflowers''".

The summary gets stored alongside your edit, and allows people to [[Help:Tracking changes|track changes]] in the wiki more effectively.

== Preview ==

It's a good idea to use the 'Show preview' button to see what your change will look like, before you save it. This is also related to [[Help:Tracking changes|tracking changes]] because every time you save, this is displayed to others as a separate change. This isn't something to worry about too much, but it's good to get into the habit of eliminating mistakes in your own work, by using a preview before saving, rather than saving several minor corrections afterwards.
== Discussion ==
Every article has its own "talk page" where you can ask questions, make suggestions, or discuss corrections. See [[Help:Talk pages]]

* IMS: IMS Global Learning Consortium has outlined a number of standards for systems operating in this field to inter operate. Specification cover creating courses, course content, identify users, etc. In many cases "IMS Administration" and an API, application programming interface, which is used to programatically affect changes on the system are grouped into a single concept. * Source code: Generally, code for software is written in a human-readable format and then complied into a machine-readable formate known as binary code which is what is run by users of the software. Software users do not need to see any complex source code in order to use software. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Source_code
* Binary code/Object Code: Generally, binary code is the format software needs to be in for a computer to run it. Generally, software is distributed in unmodifiable binary format. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Object_file
* Commercial/Proprietary software: Software is purchased for general use or for a set period of time. Generally, the software that is purchased is distributed in unmodifiable binary code. Generally, commercial software is developed by developers hired by the software vendor. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proprietary_software
* Open Source Software: Open source software is distributed in both binary code and source code formats. Most licences prevent the resale or distribution of the software without the source. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_source
* Community source software: Community source software involves many of the tenants of open source software, but also includes explicit decisions about how the project to develop the software is to be run. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Community_source
