[edit] WebDAV For The Mac
WebDAV is built into OSX and is supported by other stand-alone applications as well.
This article refers to Brock University's WebCT server, but most information is relevant for all WebDAV situations, for example Sakai and other systems. You will first need to know the WebDAV address which is described in article about the WebDAV address for your course.
The first option is the WebDAV support built into OSX. This creates an extra drive on your desktop that will contain all your WebCT files. If you don't have OS 10.4+ you will not be able to access secure WebDAV addresses.
The other options are free/open source programs like Cyberduck and Goliath. Cyberduck and Goliath work more like an FTP program and does not mount a drive on the desktop, but it does support secure WebDAV. Goliath also works with OS9.
[edit] Mac OSX Support
- From the desktop, or Finder, in OS X go to the "GO" menu and select "Connect To Server" (⌘ K).
- This will open a window to mount a remote location as an icon on your desktop.
- Enter the URL for your courses WebDAV section and press "Connect".
- You can then drag-and-drop files to and from your local files in your finder into and out of your WebCT files.
[edit] Cyberduck
Cyberduck is an open source FTP, SFTP, WebDAV and Amazon S3 browser licenced under the GPL with an easy to use interface, integration with external editors and support for many Mac OS X system technologies such as Spotlight, Bonjour, QuickLook and the Keychain.
Cyberduck can be downloaded for free at http://cyberduck.ch
Once the disk image is downloaded and opened drag the duck icon into the Applications folder.
To Add files via Cyberduck follow thse simple steps:
- Run Cyberduck by double-clicking it in your Applications folder
- Place the WebDAV URL from WebCT into the "Quick Connect" space and press 'Enter'.
- You will be prompted to enter your WebCT username and password and then press "Login"
- You may need to accept a security certificate.
- You can then drag-and-drop files to and from your finder into and out of Cyberduck and your WebCT files.
[edit] Goliath
The current version of Goliath is available from http://www.webdav.org/goliath. Double-click on the downloaded file to install Goliath. Upon successful installation click on the Goliath icon to start the application.
Goliath will prompt you for your course URL, do not include the "http://" when using this program. Enter the Web address for your course. Click on the checkbox "Use Basic Authentication", then enter your myWebCT username and password, then click on the OK button.
