The problem appears to be a too-literal interpretation of "student view". A number of tools in WebCT CE 6.2, including the default "course content home", refuse to reveal their student view before the activation/start date. At the moment this appears to be an inconvenience but not something that is terminal.

[edit] Possible short-term solutions are:

• Work with the "teach" tab as much as possible and wait for the activation/start date to remedy the problem.
• Change the activation/start date and allow yourself and your students to see the student view. If the activation/start date is changed the students will only be added to the course if the date has been set to be active over-night. That is to say, the changes only apply if they are left in effect overnight. Here is how to change the Dates.
• Change the activation/start date and hide allow contents & tools manually. (How to change Dates).

• Blackboard/WebCT has issued a multi-step patch that will be applied over the next scheduled Thursday's schedule maintenance periods.
