In order for students to successfully access full-text journals from off-campus, links to Library article databases must pass through the Library's proxy server.

[edit] How to create a link

The simplest way to create a link to a journal article is to find the 'persistent link' and simply paste that into WebCT's Web Links.

To find persistent links in Ebsco databases, click on the title of the article you wish to reference. You will find a link next to the text 'Persistent link to this record.' This is the link (with the proxy server reference included) you should use on WebCT.

If there is no 'persistent link' you can create one using the Link Checker. Paste the URL to the journal article that you want to link to. You will be given a URL and you will find out if the link is available from off campus. If it is not available from off campus click 'Have it Added' and you will be contacted when the link is available.

Persistent links will look like: http://proxy.library.brocku.ca/login?url=http://www.jstor.org. Note that before the original URL is some extra information (http://proxy.library.brocku.ca/login?url= ) that will prompt the user if they are off campus to log in.

Please note: the University's licence with Access Copyright, the Canadian Copyright Licensing Agency, does not include posting of digital copies of journal articles on WebCT but you may link to them.

Valid links can be pasted into WebCT Discussion postings or Mail messages using the HTML creation tool. The WebCT Web Links tool can also be used to link to library databases.
