Step by step instructions for submitting assignments on WebCT (NOT for presentations). If you try this and still have problems, respond here and I will try and help

  1. Write your assignment in your usual word processing program. Save the file with a filename of 8 or more characters, with no spaces or hyphens, preferably include your name and the assignment name. The file should be saved in a common text format, ie: RTF, doc (Word 6 version) or perhaps txt.
  2. Log on to WebCT. If you don't have Internet at home, bring the file to a computer lab on a disk.
  3. On the homepage, click on the drop box. Click on the link for the assignment you are submitting. Click on the Student Files button, then click on Upload.
  4. In the dialogue box type the name of your summary file. Or click on Browse to look through the folders and drives on your computer until you find the right file. Make sure that from the pull down menu beside 'Files of Type:' in the browsing box you have chosen All Files (*.*) or your file name might not appear. When you find your file click to select it, click on open and the name will be inserted into the 'Filename' window automatically.
  5. Click the upload button at the bottom of the page, and wait. When the upload is completed, that filename will appear in the table under the title 'Student Files.' At this point you have the option of deleting any incorrect files or ones you do not want to submit, by checking off the box beside them and clicking on delete. All files appearing in the list will be submitted, so to avoid duplication if you are working ahead, upload one file at a time for each summary and go through all the steps before uploading another file. The files are automatically removed from your list once you submit them.
  6. IMPORTANT to SUBMIT your current file for the assignment you must now go back to the previous page. Click the Return to Assignment hyperlink near the top. The Assignment Instructions screen appears. To complete the process, you must click Submit Assignment on that screen, and then once more where the file list appears. You will get one last warning, click 'ok' if you think you've done everything right.
  7. The assignment will no longer be available to you once you have submitted a file. The assignment will no longer be available after the given date.
