Discussions: Managing Topics
From WebCT Wiki
WebCT Requires you to have no less than two topics. You can rename the default 'Main' and 'Notes' topics.
[edit] Creating a Topic
- Inside the "Build" or "Teach" press "Create Topic"
- The topic will need a title and an optional discrition
- At this point you may choose to make the topic grade-able.
- You may also choose to set the Topic Behaviour Options below.
Please note that this option is not available to TAs and some instructors unless a designer/instructor has allowed TAs access via Manage Course > Settings > Teaching Assistant Settings.
[edit] Moving Topics
Discussions topics can be moved by checking the box beside the topic then clicking the icon in the first column near where you want the topic to move to.
This flash video demonstrates this process: http://ctlet.brocku.ca/webctwiki/swf/discussion_reorder.html
[edit] Topic Behaviour Options
This part of WebCT has changed a lot from WebCT CE 4 and earlier versions of WebCT CE 6. Imported content from WebCT 4 and WebCT 6.0 has been known to act unpredictably
- You can access the "Topic Behaviour Options" either when you create a topic or select the chevron V beside an existing topic and choose "Edit Properties".
- You must click the title "Topic Behaviour Options" to expand it and reveal the options.
- The options for topics are more finite than just lock/unlock
- Students can post messages and reply to messages
- Students can reply to messages but cannot post messages
- Students can post messages but cannot reply to messages
- Students can edit their messages after posting them
- Lock this topic for Students (Section Instructors can post in a locked topic)
- If there are no posts yet, you can also make the topic anonymous.
