Chat: Using
From WebCT Wiki
The WebCT Chat tool has a very basic and straight-forward interface
- The main window display a running log of what is being said starting from when you connected.
- The right menu has a list of the participants.
- The box at the bottom of the screen is where you can type a message. It will accept large amounts of text, but it will only let you see a few characters at a time. When you want to submit your message press the Enter key on your keyboard or click "Send"
- The box at the top can show a whiteboard for drawing and uploading images, if the instructor has it turned on
- To send a private message select the persons name from the right menu and then proceed to type the message.
The chat tool uses Java and it is important that you have a recent version of Java.
[edit] Hand Raise Mode
When chats have a large number of participants, instructors can choose to enable hand raise mode. When this is enabled, students queue up their requests to speak, just like raising their hands. The instructor passes the mike to the next person in the queue at the appropriate time. This allows a more fluid pace of conversation and helps keeps the chat on-topic.
[edit] Viewing Chat Room Log
1. From the Teach tab, locate the chat room and click on the button next to its name (downward arrow- chevron with three lines) icon. A menu appears. 2. Click View Log. The Chat Room Log screen appears. 3. If you want to print the log, use your browser's print function. 4. If you want to delete the record of messages, click Clear Log
