[edit] Before you Begin

  • Ensure that you possess an Instructor role within both the site that is to receive the imported content as well as the site that is to send content.
  • Enable tools in the new site that will receive the imported content.

[edit] How to import content into a new Isaak-Sakai site

A new course space can be populated with content from a previous or concurrent Sakai course by following these steps:

  1. In a new Sakai course, click on the left Site Info
  2. From the menu at the top, click Import From Site.
  3. You will then be asked if I would like to replace my data, I would like to merge my data or I would like to merge my user(s) -- generally the first option is best, yet the second is better suited to new course sites to which you've already generated content that you don't want deleted during the import/replace procedure.
  4. You will then be presented with a list of other course sites from which you can important -- locate and check the one that applies.
  5. Check each of the tools to which you would like to import content. A tool must be enabled in both sites to be available in this step. If importing content from the Lessons tool, be certain to import Resources content, as well!
  6. Click Finish and then confirm that the import was successful by inspecting the imported content within the tool.

[edit] Things to consider

Permissions and roles

To complete the procedures in this article, you must be assigned a role having the necessary permissions. This often excludes Students and TAs by default. To determine your role, follow the directions in Participant roles.

For a basic understanding of roles and permissions, see Permissions and roles.

  • Student-submitted material, such as completed assignments, forum postings, or grades will not be imported using this method.
  • Items saved as drafts in the source site will be imported as drafts, which means they are not immediately viewable by students. To make them viewable, you must post them. For instructions, see Posting an assignment previously saved as a draft.

[edit] Known Issues

  • Release criteria (dates or hide/show commands) are not imported with the files and folders in the Resources tool.
  • The import work is done in the background. You will receive an E-Mail when the work is complete. Small amounts of content will be ready near immediately, larger sites can take more time.
